Before I ever picked up a brush or knew what a canvas felt like, I was just a curious kid with a dream far bigger than my circumstances. Growing up, I didn’t have access to fancy materials or formal training — just the raw desire to create, the patience to observe, and the relentless belief that art could be a voice, a refuge, and a revolution. The journey didn’t start in a studio. It started in my bedroom, with scraps of paper and borrowed pencils, sketching by candlelight on quiet evenings in East Africa.
Through years of trial and error, I discovered that greatness in art doesn't come from privilege — it comes from persistence, vulnerability, and vision. That’s why I’m not just building a career. I’m building a bridge for other aspiring artists, no matter where they come from or what tools they have. I’m a self-taught artist from East Africa with a deep belief that art should inspire, move, and be accessible to everyone — not just the elite. My mission is to help you create work you’re truly proud of, to give you the skills, confidence, and mindset to grow as an artist, and to share everything I’ve learned on my journey.
Over the years, I’ve sold paintings to collectors internationally, completed large-scale custom commissions, and built a sustainable art business from the ground up. But nothing compares to the joy I feel when teaching — guiding others to unlock their creativity and discover the power of their own artistic voice.
I was born on November 9, 1995, in Mwanza Shirati Hospital, Tanzania. In the late ’90s, my parents, my older brother Tom Fred, and I moved to Kenya, where I grew up.
From a young age, I was drawn to drawing — literally. I sketched wild animals, especially zebras and lions, and became fascinated with faces, particularly eyes. I often drew the head of Jesus, which carried a deep personal meaning for me. My father encouraged my animal drawings, and my mother supported my creative time as something valuable and important.
While my brother kept a drawing book, I preferred spontaneity — sketching wherever inspiration struck without worrying about keeping a record. I never went to art school; instead, I learned through observation, experimentation, and studying old masters like Velázquez, Bouguereau, Sargent, Vermeer, and Frank Frazetta. I’ve explored many mediums, but oil painting became my greatest love — luminous, rich, and forgiving enough to let me work slowly and deliberately.
In March 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I became a father to my son, Thomas Junior. At the time, I was working as a pharmaceutical and medical representative, earning $400 a month. When the pandemic hit, my pay was suddenly cut in half.
Faced with uncertainty, I made the leap — I quit my job, borrowed $300 to buy my first serious set of art supplies, and committed to pursuing art full-time. I had no roadmap, no guarantee of success, and no experience in the business side of art — just a deep determination to make it work.
The first year was tough. I struggled to sell, battled self-doubt, and faced more rejection than I’d like to admit. But I refused to quit. Slowly, I began finding opportunities on Upwork and Etsy, eventually earning $1,000 to $2,000 a month from my art. That was the moment I knew — this wasn’t just a dream. It was a way forward.
Art should evoke emotion, inspire action, and leave a lasting impression. I want my work to connect deeply with people and to make art a part of everyday life for as many people as possible.
In the next 5–10 years, I aim to see my work in major galleries, mentor and influence the next generation of artists, and create a global community of art lovers and learners.
This vision is the foundation of Thomas George Arts — an online platform where students can register, access their personal dashboard, and explore a growing library of courses. I teach using the principles of the old masters, combined with practical strategies for thriving as an artist today, inspired by the likes of Andrew Tischler and Sunny Lenarduzzi.
I sell original oil paintings, accept custom commissions, and produce full-length, high-quality art tutorials that go beyond surface-level tips. In my courses, I share everything — every brushstroke, every technique, every hard-earned lesson — so that my students can not only improve their skills but also think like professional artists.
My art and teaching now reach collectors, students, and art lovers across Europe, the Americas, Canada, and beyond. And this is just the beginning.
Away from the studio, I’m a husband and father. I share my life with my beautiful wife, whose support has been a cornerstone of my journey, and with our amazing son, Thomas Junior, who inspires me every single day. Family keeps me grounded, fuels my creativity, and reminds me of the deeper “why” behind everything I do.
It’s been a challenging, unpredictable, and incredibly rewarding journey so far. I’ve gone from a young boy sketching animals in Kenya to building a global art business and education platform — and the best part is, I’m still just getting started.
